CANTON, Mass., June 27, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- NEI (NASDAQ: NEI), a leading provider of application platforms, deployment solutions and lifecycle support services for software technology developers and OEMs worldwide, today announced that Lightspeed Systems, Inc. has selected NEI to manufacture its new Bottle Rocket school network filtering appliance. Utilizing NEI's solution design and system integration services, Lightspeed Systems was able to develop and launch its Bottle Rocket appliance in less than 60 days.

The Lightspeed Bottle Rocket is a high-speed, scalable network appliance that performs affordable web filtering for small to medium-sized school networks. Purpose-built for school district systems that require robust filtering capabilities, the Bottle Rocket delivers an easy-to-use single point of management for educators and their IT staff. The Bottle Rocket is based on Lightspeed Systems' award winning Web Filter, preloaded on an NEI appliance and made plug-and-play ready for installation and seamless operation with existing school networks. The appliance uses the industry's most advanced processing and storage components to deliver Children's Internet Protection Act (CIPA)-compliant network filtering and reduced data rate latencies with scalable expansion capability.

"NEI helped us bring the Bottle Rocket to market in a matter of weeks," said Rob Chambers, vice president of product development at Lightspeed Systems. "It was important to Lightspeed that we work with a company that had considerable experience and expertise in appliance development and could address both the hardware and software issues that we knew would arise during this process. We chose a company that we were sure could deliver the results we needed to hit our market window. NEI's system integration expertise allowed us to aggressively accelerate our go-to-market schedule and launch a reliable platform for our Web Filter software. Their manufacturing resources and support services allowed us to deliver a more effective design, increasing the competitiveness of our product and the value we are able to deliver to our target customers."

"This program is another excellent example of how NEI helps our customers leverage our deep integration capabilities to improve appliance performance over diverse legacy networks," said Jeff Hudgins, vice president of marketing at NEI. "Our Life Cycle Engine for Application Deployment (LEAD) model is perfectly suited to help software developers deliver and support a more powerful, affordable appliance solution to meet their schedules and competitive performance criteria."

The Bottle Rocket appliance is based on NEI's S-1200R3 platform, incorporating Intel's advanced Xeon® (Sandy Bridge-based) microprocessor. Lightspeed plans to expand this line of products using this technology with two more models later this year. For additional NEI product information, please contact NEI sales.
