Sun Microsystems and SeeBeyond Agreement Brings Practical SOA to
Customers Broad Technology and Marketing Agreement Extends Reach
and Capabilities of Sun Java(TM) Enterprise System with SeeBeyond
ICAN 5 SANTA CLARA, Calif., Oct. 19 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Sun
Microsystems, Inc., the inventor and leading advocate of Java(TM)
technology, announced today a far-reaching technology and marketing
agreement with SeeBeyond that features Service-Oriented
Architecture (SOA) solutions and composite application delivery via
the Sun Java Enterprise System (Java ES). Under the agreement,
SeeBeyond will port components of its SeeBeyond Integration
Composite Application Network (SeeBeyond ICAN 5) Suite to the Sun
Java Enterprise System, starting with its eGate(TM) Integrator 5
platform to the Sun Java System Application Server 8. The companies
will initially focus on solutions for RFID and Portal application
development, which will be jointly marketed and sold by Sun and
SeeBeyond. "Sun has the most secure, scaleable and price performant
Web Services platform in the industry for customers who are moving
to Service-Oriented Architecture development and deployment," said
Mark Bauhaus, Vice President, Java Web Services for Sun
Microsystems. "SeeBeyond has leading products for enterprise
integration, composite application creation, workflow, and Business
Process Management services. Together, Sun's innovative Java
Enterprise System and SeeBeyond's integration solutions deliver the
highest productivity and most practical SOA-based customer
integration solution available today." "Clearly, SOA is emerging as
the preferred service delivery mechanism for forward-thinking IT
strategists," said Jim Demetriades, Founder and CEO of SeeBeyond.
"As customers standardize on the Java Enterprise System for their
core infrastructure, it's only natural that they would extend this
platform to include a complete SOA-based composite application
development environment to drive their integration projects, thus
improving core business operations, reducing development costs,
minimizing risk and accelerating ROI." With both companies actively
participating on the Java Business Integration specification (JSR
208), this partnership is based on a strong alignment around
current and emerging industry standards such as JMS, Java Connector
Architecture and BPEL. Subsequently, the SeeBeyond integration
server suite is the only integration server suite vendor to have
passed the Java 2 Enterprise Edition (J2EE(TM)) Application
Verification Suite (May 2003). The port of the SeeBeyond
integration server suite to the Java System Application Server 8
lays the groundwork for advanced platform integration and SOA-based
systems development, and supports the companies' objective to
ensure customers receive the best performing and most reliable
platform available. Composite-based Portal Application Development
As part of this agreement, Sun and SeeBeyond are also partnering to
deliver joint solutions around Sun's Java System Portal Server and
SeeBeyond's ICAN 5 integration server. The joint solution will
provide out-of-the-box integration between the Sun and SeeBeyond
products including SeeBeyond's enterprise service bus (ESB)
solution, eInsight(TM) ESB, to build composite applications for
delivery through the Sun Java System Portal Server. Customers will
receive pre-built portlets enabling them to easily develop portal
solutions that feature business integration, composite application
creation, workflow and business process management services. The
joint portal solution is intended to automate business processes
and unlock both the power of the data and functionality in existing
backend systems. These capabilities will be showcased in the Java
System Portal Server Reference Architecture. SOA-based Solutions
for RFID Leading industry experts agree that RFID deployments can
achieve considerable benefits, but to realize ROI, organizations
must utilize the valuable data collected from RFID readers as an
opportunity to drive improvements in business processes. Today's
agreement between Sun and SeeBeyond is expected to drive advanced,
Java technology-based solutions into the RFID market segment. The
joint end-to-end offering features Sun's Java System RFID Software
interoperating with the SeeBeyond RFID Composite Application
Network solution offering. Sun's RFID software will process the
high volume of RFID data coming in from the edge and integrate it
with business application systems. The information is collected,
then sent to the SeeBeyond platform for distribution to trading
partners and enterprise backend systems, such as SAP or Oracle. The
joint RFID solution will be available for viewing in Sun's RFID
Test Center in Dallas, TX. About SeeBeyond Based on 15 years of
