Woodward Governor Company (NASDAQ: WGOV) today announced the US Marine Corps Systems Command (USMC) awarded the Improved Loader Weapon Station (ILWS) contract to Woodward HRT, Inc. (WHRT), a subsidiary of Woodward and part of its Airframe Systems business segment.

The contract award covers initial orders and options for up to 457 systems.

"This is a significant win and will position us to pursue a large and growing domestic and international market for remote weapon systems," said Dennis Benning, Woodward President, Airframe Systems.

The ILWS is a Remote Weapon Station (RWS) for the USMC's M1A1 main battle tank machine guns. It mounts on the tank's exterior and allows an operator to remotely control target selection, aiming and firing while safely inside the tank.

The fully integrated system consists of an electrically driven gun turret, a day and night thermal imager, full color display monitor, and operator control handles. Woodward markets its RWS system under the trade name Small Caliber Ultra-Light or SCUL™ with options for various weapons, stabilization and control software. Woodward's RWS is a compact and affordable solution providing optimal soldier protection while improving day and night war fighting capabilities.

Work will be conducted at WHRT's development and production facility in Santa Clarita, CA. WHRT is the leader in control actuation systems for tactical weapons and turret control and stabilization systems. It has been the sole supplier of the M1Abrams tank turret control system since its initial development in the 1970s. Woodward HRT offers turret control systems and products for a variety of land and air vehicle applications, and is a principal supplier of guided weapon controls to US prime contractors.
