Dana Corporation Introduces Advanced-Technology Axles for Improved NVH, Fuel Economy, Durability DETROIT, March 8 /PRNewswire/ -- Dana Corporation announced today at the 2004 SAE World Congress here that its next-generation family of axles, AdvanTek(TM), is now available to customers. The products offer best- in-class noise, vibration, and harshness (NVH), improved fuel economy, and greater durability. (Logo: http://www.newscom.com/cgi-bin/prnh/19990903/DANA ) Dana AdvanTek axles enable vehicle designers and engineers to use a smaller, lighter axle than previously required for most applications. Size and weight reduction was accomplished through the use of Dana's advanced gear technology, which allows for smaller gears with increased torque capacity. Additional weight savings was accomplished through gear geometry designed specifically for use with aluminum housings. Combined with special bearing technology, the new gears improve axle efficiency and contribute to fuel savings. "From product to process, Dana AdvanTek axles represent a true innovation from Dana engineers. The design remains true to the brand promise of a Dana axle, robust design and product durability," said Dana CEO and president Michael J. Burns. "From our first axle in 1919, Dana has strived to offer innovative products to our customers. The superior design of the Dana AdvanTek axle is the latest example of this commitment. We look forward to continuing our role as an industry leader in the development of advanced vehicle technologies." Proprietary Dana advancements in manufacturing and assembly technologies improved NVH for the Dana AdvanTek axle. The result is an axle that has less motion transmission error (MTE) and lower gear backlash than current offerings, resulting in the improved NVH. "Dana AdvanTek axles bring a quieter, more fuel-efficient, and more durable axle to the market," said Chuck Heine, Dana's president of technology development. "This new family of axles enables Dana to meet the specific needs of our customers, while contributing to overall vehicle improvements." The Dana-designed and manufactured axle is currently offered in 11 models, based on ring-gear diameter. Dana Corporation is a global leader in the design, engineering, and manufacture of value-added products and systems for automotive, commercial, and off-highway vehicles.
