DRS Technologies, Inc. (NYSE: DRS) announced today that it received a $22.3 million contract from the U.S. Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA) to design, produce and deliver Repair Station Console (RSC) systems for the DDG Modernization Backfit program. The development and installation of these systems will automate and integrate shipboard damage control communications which increase the survivability of battle-damaged ships.

The RSC systems, installed on U.S. Navy Surface combatant ships, will communicate over the shipboard Gigabit Ethernet Data Multiplex System (GEDMS) network. Each system will support modernization damage control software applications as well as the requirements for the DDG in-service Fleet and First Article Test (FAT). DRS will qualify the hardware and provide all technical support services.

"In the Global War on Terror (GWOT) it is critical that the U.S. Navy have the necessary upgrades to modernize ships and extend the life of the existing fleet," said Richard S. Danforth, president of DRS's Command, Control and Communications (C3) strategic business unit. "DRS has provided support for the DDG platform over the last several decades and is pleased to offer this new system to the Navy that will increase ship survivability."

The Indefinite Delivery /Indefinite Quantity (IDIQ) contract calls for a potential delivery of 20 ship sets that will be installed as part of the Machinery Control System (MCS). In addition, DRS will provide up to 10 training sets for the Land Based Engineering Site (LBES) in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The production of these systems will take place at DRS's C3 Systems Strategic Business Unit (SBU) manufacturing facility in Johnstown, Pennsylvania. The first ship sets are scheduled to be delivered January 2010.
