The United States must address serious energy management
challenges, including rising energy costs, aging
infrastructure, and the need to develop and deploy diverse, clean
energy technologies to meet growing demand, according to former
U.S. Secretary of Energy, Spencer Abraham, who served as the
keynote speaker at a major conference today in Atlanta. The event,
Energy Evolution: Transforming the Future of Power, is part of
Eaton Corporation’s (NYSE:ETN) on-going effort to provide leaders
from the public sector and industry with the tools they need to
navigate rapidly evolving needs for improved energy management.
Secretary Abraham kicked off the event by providing Atlanta’s
top institutional and private-sector decision makers with an
overview of the Department of Energy, national energy policy and
critical challenges. Following Abraham’s keynote, interactive
break-out and panel sessions featured public-sector, industry and
academic experts who have developed and implemented successful
energy management programs.
"We face serious energy management challenges on a number of
fronts, the foremost of which include rising energy costs, aging
infrastructure, and the need to develop and deploy diverse, clean
energy technologies to meet growing demand," said Secretary
Abraham. "Eaton and the other industry and public-sector leaders at
this conference are uniquely positioned to help us address these
challenges. This symposium is precisely the kind of best practice
we need."
Discussion topics included increasing energy efficiency, using
stimulus funds and other resources to invest in greener, safer, and
more reliable technologies, and case studies on implementing and
managing sustainability projects.
“By bringing together a unique blend of highly experienced
energy management experts from industry, the public sector, and
academia, Eaton has provided tremendous value to regional leaders,”
said Robert Hall, environmental fleet manager, UPS, who
participated in a panel session on hybrid and advanced vehicle
technology. “UPS is committed to helping customers make better use
of technologies and innovation to increase efficiency, so this was
a perfect fit for us.”
Other featured speakers included Deepak Divan, director,
Intelligent Power Infrastructure Consortium, Georgia Institute of
Technology; Jenny Taylor, fleet manager, Georgia Power; Bobby
Baker, commissioner, Georgia Public Service Commission; Dimitri
Kazarinoff, vice president and general manager of Eaton’s Hybrid
Power Systems Division; and Jerry R. Whitaker, president of Eaton’s
Electrical Sector, Americas Region.
“As a global power management leader, Eaton is committed to
providing public-sector and business customers with the
technologies and solutions their organizations need to maximize
energy efficiency and savings,” said Whitaker. “This symposium gave
regional leaders clear roadmaps to help their organizations better
leverage evolving energy legislation, incentives and
technologies.”

Business of Renewable Energy Viable

the Energy Culture and Becoming a Powerhouse
