On Thursday, April 22, NYSE Euronext (NYX) and the Yale Chief Executive Leadership Institute will host the inaugural Green Summit at the New York Stock Exchange in conjunction with the 40th anniversary of Earth Day. The event will feature leaders from the United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, Department of Energy, and the corporate and academic sectors who will explore effective ways to achieve environmental sustainability and to grow business and the economy through green business. The summit will be webcast live at http://www.thomson-webcast.net/us/dispatching/NYSE20100422 and will begin 7:50 a.m. EDT with remarks by Duncan L. Niederauer, CEO of NYSE Euronext, Jeffrey A. Sonnenfeld, Senior Associate Dean of Yale School of Management, and Jay Whitehead, President & Publisher of Corporate Responsibility Magazine.

“NYSE Euronext is proud to partner with the Yale Chief Executive Leadership Institute to host the Green Summit,” said Mr. Niederauer. “There is no better way to commemorate Earth Day than to bring together a diverse group of thought leaders to promote advocacy and to exchange ideas on innovative “green” ways to grow businesses, empower communities and shape the economy to make our world a better place for future generations.”

Yale Senior Associate Dean and conference organizer Jeffrey Sonnenfeld commented: “The spirit at the time of the original inspiring Earth Day on Independence Mall in Philadelphia in 1970 which I joined had too much of adversarial ‘which side are you on’ sentiment. Lines were drawn in the sand between commerce and conservation. We are celebrating how, forty years later, economic development and environmental vitality can join forces. We are proud to showcase the profound tangible strides shared by a large portfolio of enterprises.”

The NYSE and Yale Green Summit provides an opportunity for NYSE-listed issuers and others to come together to garner unique insights and further their “green” initiatives. The summit underscores NYSE Euronext’s commitment to creating thought leadership forums where our community of executives can exchange innovative ideas and network.

The event is co-sponsored by Deloitte; The Dow Chemical Company (NYSE: DOW); Hewlett Packard Co. (NYSE: HPQ); PepsiCo (NYSE: PEP); Office Depot (NYSE: ODP); United Parcel Service, Inc. (NYSE: UPS); The Mother Nature Network; Sesame Workshop; The Body Shop and CNBC.

Following the initial session, Strategies for Building Eco-Advantage, participants will ring The Opening Bell in celebration of Earth Day’s 40th anniversary. The summit will conclude with the ringing of the NYSE Closing Bell by featured environmental charity, Global Green USA, the American arm of Green Cross International, a non-profit organization founded to create a new approach to solving the world's most pressing environmental challenges.

Additionally, several companies participating in the Green Summit will display their “green” technologies inside and outside the NYSE:

  • United Parcel Service, Inc./hybrid electric package delivery car
