Program Trading Dropped Last Week On NYSE As Volume Falls

Program trading declined last week on the NYSE Euronext's (NYX)
New York Stock Exchange as total volume also slid.
The daily program-trading volume average was 543 million shares,
or 21.7% of the average total volume of 2.5 billion shares. Those
figures were down from 597.6 million, or 24% of the 2.52
billion-share average volume, posted the previous week.
The most active NYSE member firm for program trading was Morgan
Stanley (MS), followed by Goldman Sachs Group Inc. (GS). Barclays
PLC (BCS, BARC.LN) was next, followed by Deutsche Bank AG (DB,
DBK.XE).
Program trading encompasses a wide range of portfolio-trading
strategies involving the purchase or sale of a basket of at least
15 stocks.
