Program Trading Fell Last Week On NYSE, Volume Down

Program trading dropped slightly last week on the NYSE Euronext
(NYX) as total volume also declined.
The daily program trading volume average was 623.3 million, or
27.4% of the average total of 2.28 billion shares changing hands.
Those figures were down from 660.5 million, or 28.7% of the 2.3
billion average volume posted a week earlier.
The most active NYSE member for program trading was Morgan
Stanley (MS). It was followed by Goldman Sachs Group Inc. (GS),
Barclays PLC (BCS, BARC.LN) and Wedbush Securities Inc.
Program trading encompasses a wide range of portfolio-trading
strategies involving the purchase or sale of a basket of at least
15 stocks.
