Program-trading activity and overall volume declined on the New
York Stock Exchange last week, data from NYSE Euronext (NYX)
showed.
For the week ended Nov. 23, daily program-trading volume totaled
332.8 million shares, making up 29.5% of average daily volume. The
week earlier, program-trading volume totaled 431.2 million shares,
making up 30.3% of the average daily trading volume.
Overall average daily volume totaled 1.13 billion shares, down
from the previous week's 1.42 billion shares.
Morgan Stanley (MS), Barclays PLC's (BCS, BARC.LN) Barclays
Capital Inc. and Latour Trading LLC remained the three most active
NYSE-member firms for program trading last week.
Program trading comprises a wide range of portfolio-traded
strategies involving the purchase or sale of a basket of at least
15 stocks.
