Panasonic Welcomes Secaucus-Area Community to Drop Off Consumer Electronics Products at its Recycling Collection Event on September 19 SECAUCUS, N.J., Sept. 14 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- As part of Panasonic's global 'Eco Ideas' environmental effort and Green Plan 2010, Panasonic is committed to responsible environmental stewardship - both throughout the world and also within its local communities. Panasonic reflects its global environmental initiative in many ways, like through its Nationwide Recycling Program, which properly recycles end-of-life electronics products. To help celebrate Panasonic Corporation of North America's upcoming 50th anniversary in the United States, Panasonic is proud to host a consumer electronics recycling collection event* in its Secaucus, NJ corporate campus on Saturday, September 19, 2009 starting at 9:00 a.m. Panasonic has more than 300 locations in its Nationwide Recycling Program and holds events across the country, helping to keep millions of pounds of electronics out of already over-taxed landfills. Secaucus-area residents are invited to bring their unwanted or obsolete electronics to the company's U.S. headquarters at 50 Meadowlands Parkway in Secaucus from 9:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m., on September 19. The community is welcome to recycle the following consumer electronics items: televisions, VCRs, stereos, monitors, computers, printers, cell phones, and more. Residents are also encouraged to bring in old eyeglasses that Panasonic will donate to local charitable organizations. As a thank you to the community for participating in this worthwhile event, the first 100 participants will receive a 4-pack of AA Panasonic Evolta batteries. "Panasonic's environmental mandate is a global one, but the implementation of it must be local," says David Thompson, Director of Panasonic's Environmental Department. "We are happy to host this drop-off event at our U.S. corporate campus, but even beyond the 19th, our campus is always a drop-off center. We want to responsibly dispose of electronic products, as well as continue to enrich our community." Panasonic recognizes that electronics contain hazardous constituents and that they must be recycled properly. Panasonic subscribes to strict electronic product recycling standards, insuring that no products will be exported for recycling. Panasonic is also a founding member of the Electronic Manufacturers Recycling Management Company, LLC, (MRM) an organization committed to bringing the manufacturing community together into a collaborative effort to develop a large-scale, national recycling system for electronic products. Currently, 25 different manufacturers participate in MRM's programs across the country and have arranged for the collection and recycling of almost 27 million pounds of used electronic equipment since mid-2007 when the organization was founded. * This Panasonic recycling event is intended for consumers only.
