The World's First and Only Portable Blu-ray Disc Player Acknowledged for Its Unique Concept SECAUCUS, N.J., Nov. 19 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Continuing its tradition of producing innovative technology products that enhance the consumer's entertainment experience, Panasonic is proud to announce that the DMP-B15, the world's first and only portable Blu-ray player, has been awarded a prestigious 2010 Innovations Award by the Consumer Electronics Association. The B15 will be showcased, with other Innovation winners, at the 2010 CES Convention, held in Las Vegas, January 7-10, 2010. (Photo: http://www.newscom.com/cgi-bin/prnh/20091119/NY13908 ) The DMP-B15 remains the world's first and only portable Blu-ray Disc player. The DMP-B15, designed to provide the ultimate high definition Blu-ray experience for those on the go, features a high quality 8.9-inch WSVGA LCD screen and includes an Ethernet connection for access to VIERA Cast(TM), Panasonic's proprietary internet technology, and BD Live functionality. VIERA Cast allows the consumer to enjoy such targeted sites as Amazon Video-on-Demand and YouTube(TM). As additional sites are added to VIERA Cast they will automatically be added to the functionality. BD Live utilizes the internet connection to allow the consumer to download additional content. The B15 also includes an SD memory card slot that enables the consumer to view digital still pictures and HD video (the B15 is AVCHD capable) recorded on an SD card. In addition, the versatility of the B15 is evident by the inclusion of an HDMI output that allows the portable player to connect with any HDTV that has an HDMI input, thereby serving as a stand-alone Blu-ray player. This provides the consumer with an additional player that can then be used in a secondary location. Image quality is of the highest level, thanks to PHL Reference Chroma Processor Plus technology developed in collaboration with Panasonic Hollywood Laboratory. The PHL Reference Chroma Processor Plus is a high quality image-processing technology that precisely processes each pixel of the Blu-ray Disc(TM) video signal in the vertical direction. It reproduces color data with twice the accuracy of conventional systems, resulting in faithful and sharp colors. "As a pioneer in the development of DVD and Blu-ray expertise, Panasonic has always been in the forefront of cutting-edge, consumer-friendly technology and we are extremely proud to be singled out as an innovator. Panasonic was the first company to bring to market a portable DVD player and stand-alone Blu-ray Disc players to feature Bonus View and BD Live," said Richard Simone, Director, Panasonic Consumer Electronics Company's Entertainment Group. "Blu-ray with its 1080p resolution, when coupled with HDTVs with the capability of reproducing that HD resolution, is introducing the consumer to the ultimate entertainment experience now available in the living room. Now, with the introduction of Panasonic's unique portable Blu-ray Disc player, that experience is expanded. The consumer can now view 1080p Blu-ray discs while traveling and the versatile B15 can be used as a secondary stand-alone player."
