Clearview Software International, a leading provider of software tools and services that integrate Windows technology into host-based, legacy applications, today announced the availability of tWinrunner for the Panasonic Toughbook® line of devices. In particular, tWinrunner allows Windows Mobile and Windows CE applications to run in emulation mode on the Toughbook U1 Ultra, a device that combines the portability of a handheld computer, the benefits of a full Windows OS, the durability needed for enterprise applications and a suite of available integrated features.

The migration path from a Mobile OS to a full Windows OS requires rewriting of a corporation’s existing software applications, which can be time-consuming and costly, causing down time for mobile workforces in mission-critical environments, incurring additional costs and reducing a company’s bottom line. tWinrunner is an essential tool for any company that is looking to migrate existing software applications that run on the abbreviated and limited operating systems currently used on handheld solutions. This product allows Windows Mobile and Windows CE applications to run in emulation mode on the Toughbook U1 using Windows 7.0 or XP Operating Systems, without the need to rewrite or modify their current settings.

“Clearview provides a simple transition for companies wishing to move from handheld devices running a pared-down OS to full-functioning solutions leveraging a feature-rich operating system,” said Ed McCabe, National Sales Manager, Supply Chain Logistics, Panasonic Solutions Company. “The combination of Clearview’s tWinrunner and a rugged handheld like the Toughbook U1 Ultra allows companies to benefit from their legacy software investments, while creating the opportunity to use off-the-shelf Windows software and the numerous integrated features found in Toughbook devices.”

Markets that can benefit from this solution include warehousing, distribution, direct store delivery, route delivery and field service. Clearview’s software and a reliable Toughbook U1 Ultra computer equip mobile workforces with the full Windows-based handheld device capable of withstanding harsh work environments and running existing applications, while leveraging new hardware features, including optional features, such as bar code scanner, GPS, RFID and an integrated camera. With this solution, IT managers are free to leverage past investments while embracing future opportunities.

Clearview’s tWinrunner allows CE and Windows Mobile Applications to run under Microsoft’s Desktop Windows (7 and XP), eliminates the hassle of doing costly application porting from CE and/or Windows Mobile to “Big” Windows, provides a data portal from Windows Mobile to “Big” Windows Applications running on the same device, and supports product growth from small CE and Windows Mobile terminals to larger screen devices.

“With tWinrunner, businesses can protect and extend their investment in mobile applications without modifications to their existing applications. Panasonic and Clearview will allow customers to place their applications on new devices that have more memory, faster processing speed and a more powerful operating environment,” said Richard Lowney, CEO of Clearview. “Our products have a twofold purpose; first protect customers’ existing software investment, and second provide a more robust technology arena to allow customers to add new functionality and attain a higher performance for their workforce.”

The Toughbook U1 Ultra features a number of usability and navigation features, including enlarged screen icons, programmable “right click” onscreen button, a larger soft keyboard, a “zoom and pan” mode – allowing users to simply navigate robust content and soft “Ctrl+Alt+Del” for log-on access. The optional 2 megapixel camera features updated software to offer faster auto-focus and improved white balancing, while the optional barcode reader has been improved with new software that allows for onboard, data and symbology configuration. The new Toughbook U1 Ultra is equipped with a TransflectivePlus display for up to 6000 nit viewability in direct sunlight.

Another product well suited for the tWinrunner software is Panasonic’s Toughbook H1 Field, a rugged handheld tablet PC. The device enables extreme mobility and productivity for field sales personnel, first responders, supervisors, inspectors, maintenance workers and other highly-mobile professionals. The solution offers both, the tablet and touchscreen functionality, exceptional ergonomics, including a Panasonic-designed system that cradles the hand between the device and its molded hand strap, and it weighs only 3.4 lbs.
