Panasonic Corp. (6752.TO) has decided to start selling a range of home appliances, including air conditioners, refrigerators and washing machines, in North America from the start of the upcoming fiscal year in April, the Asahi Shimbun reported in its Wednesday morning edition. The move is an attempt to bring global sales of consumer appliances to Y2 trillion by the fiscal year ending March 2019, the report said.

The Japanese company has until now not entered in the North American home appliance market because of the consumer preference there for larger appliances than in Japan. But a slowdown in the domestic market has prompted the company to make inroads into North America.

Under its mid-term plan, Panasonic plans to increase the proportion of overseas home appliance sales to at least 60% of the total for fiscal 2015, compared with 51% in the fiscal 2010.
