Data Systems, Inc. (NYSE: TDS, TDS.S) today announced that its
founder and chairman emeritus, LeRoy (Roy)
T. Carlson, has been inducted in the Wireless History
Foundation Hall of Fame.
Carlson, age 94, founded TDS in 1969. Initially comprised of ten
small, rural telephone companies, TDS had more than $5 billion in revenues in 2009. In 1983, Carlson
founded TDS subsidiary United States Cellular Corporation (NYSE:
USM), now the sixth-largest, full-service wireless provider in the
U.S. Carlson was CEO of TDS until 1986, and chairman until 2002. He
remains a director of U.S. Cellular.
