PR Newswire (US)
BOISE, Idaho and PRINCETON, N.J., Oct. 3 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ --
Washington Group International (NYSE:WNG) announced today that it
has been awarded a cost-reimbursable contract by Public Service of
New Hampshire (PSNH) for its Clean Air Project at its 478-megawatt
Merrimack Station power plant in southern New Hampshire. Washington
Group will provide engineering, procurement support, and
construction management services for the installation of a flue gas
desulfurization (scrubber) system that will service the plant's two
fossil-fuel-fired units. The scrubber system will be designed to
primarily remove mercury from the flue gas with the additional
benefit of reducing sulfur emissions from the plant. The scrubber
system will work simultaneously with an existing selective
catalytic reduction system on each of the plant's two units,
substantially reducing station emissions. When the project is
complete, the plant will comply with New Hampshire's new mercury
emissions limitations as well as the federal Clean Air Mercury
Rule. "Washington Group is pleased to work with Public Service of
New Hampshire as it continues to implement its progressive
environmental program," said Lou Pardi, president of the company's
Power Business Unit, headquartered in Princeton, N.J. "We will
provide the required resources and clean air expertise-including
our proven ability to install a single flue gas desulfurization
system to service two units. We look forward to working together
with PSNH to reduce emissions at this vital plant." As a wholly
owned subsidiary of Connecticut-based Northeast Utilities, PSNH is
an integral part of New England's electric system and is the
largest electric utility in New Hampshire, serving more than
490,000 homes and businesses. Formed in 1926, PSNH has grown to
comprise five multi-fuel capable fossil-fuel-fired generating
units, nine hydroelectric facilities, and one biomass-fired unit,
jointly capable of generating more than 1,110 megawatts of
electricity. This diverse supply of low-cost energy provides the
foundation for continued economic growth and prosperity in New
Hampshire. Washington Group International (NYSE:WNG) provides the
talent, innovation, and proven performance to deliver integrated
engineering, construction and management solutions for businesses
and governments worldwide. Headquartered in Boise, Idaho, with more
