TORONTO, Jan. 27, 2017 /CNW/ - Corby Spirit and Wine has
once again earned top accolades at the seventh annual Canadian
Whisky Awards, including the prestigious Canadian Connoisseur
Whisky of the Year with Gooderham & Worts and Lot No. 40.
Corby's J.P. Wiser's Double Still
Rye was honoured as well for the Domestic Sippin' Whisky of the
Year award. The winners were announced on Thursday, January 19th at a ceremony
in Victoria, British Columbia as
part of the Victoria Whisky Festival.
"We were ecstatic to be two out of the five finalists for
Canadian Whisky of the Year with Gooderham & Worts and Lot No.
40," says Dr. Don Livermore, Master
Blender. "These whiskies exemplify what Canadian whisky stands for
- quality, blending, choice grains, and craftsmanship."
Valued for its bold and balanced layers of flavour, Gooderham
& Worts is a premium blend of rye, wheat, barley and corn,
right back to its roots with William
Gooderham and James Worts at Toronto's Distillery District in 1832. Lot
No. 40 is distilled in a single copper pot and aged in virgin
oak barrels, resulting in a velvety vanilla oak finish with
enhanced rye spices. J.P.
Wiser's Double Still Rye is a bold whisky full with
fruity, floral and rye spice notes. Corby's award winning whiskies
are entirely Canadian-made from local grains at its Hiram Walker facility in Windsor, Ontario.
"Corby has yet again illustrated that it is leading the way in
Canadian Whisky," says Ross Hendry,
Brand Director of Canadian Craft Whisky. "We truly value both the
Canadian Whisky Awards and Victoria Whisky Festival and the role
they continue to play in elevating the discussion around the
category. It was an honour having Dave
Broom, Davin deKergommeaux and our Master Blender here in
Victoria to sneak preview some of
our remarkable upcoming releases. We are excited for the year ahead
and to show the whisky world the very best that Canada has to offer."

About The Canadian Whisky Awards
The Canadian Whisky Awards recognize the very best Canadian
whiskies and encourage distillers to maintain the highest standards
for making whisky. To qualify, the whisky must be distilled and
matured in Canada. An independent
panel of whisky writers, bloggers, and journalists selects the
winners after tasting each whisky blind. Operated on a
not-for-profit basis, the Canadian Whisky Awards are fully
independent of the Canadian whisky industry.
