LONDON (MarketWatch) -- Among the companies whose shares were
active in European trade Tuesday are Credit Agricole SA and
InterContinental Hotels Group PLC.
Gainers
Crédit Agricole SA climbed 5.2% as the French bank's
second-quarter results came in better than anticipated. The bank's
profit was hit by the crisis surrounding Portuguese lender Banco
Espírito Santo SA, in which Crédit Agricole owns a 14.6% stake.
Deutsche Post AG shares tacked on 2.2% after the German postal
and logistics group's second-quarter net profit increased 9%.
Aggreko PLC shares advanced 1.1% after the temporary-power
provider said it still expects full-year underlying profit to be at
similar levels to 2013. Pretax profit fell 10% in the first half of
2014, hit by exchange rates.
Decliners
Bilfinger SE shares skidded 9.7% as German construction company
said Monday its Chief Executive Roland Koch will step down on Aug.
8, after the company cut its 2014 earnings forecast for the second
time this year.
InterContinental Hotels Group PLC fell 3.3% as the hotel company
reported a drop in half-year profit.
Meggitt PLC lost 4.7% after the engineering group reported a 20%
fall in first-half pretax profit due to weaker-than-expected
revenue growth in its military division.
Telefonica SA shares fell 1.7% after the Spanish firm made a
cash-and-share offer worth EUR6.7 billion ($9 billion) for
Brazilian Internet provider GVT. GVT is owned by France's Vivendi
SA , whose shares gained 3.6%.
