The U.K. government Thursday laid out a wide-ranging sanctions package that targets several major Russian companies, oligarchs and the country's second largest bank to cut them off from the British financial system.

The U.K. also proposed to limit the amount Russian nationals can deposit in British banks and said it would push for Russia to be cut off from the Swift payments network.
