YAOUNDE, Cameroon--Seven months into Cameroon's cocoa season, the quantity of beans bought for processing is running higher than this time last year.

The volume bought for crushing between August and February stood at 27,209 tons, compared with 26,058 tons over the same period last season, according to data published Friday by the National Cocoa and Coffee Board.

Cameroon's cocoa season runs from August to July.

In the 2011-12 cocoa season, 29,924 tons of cocoa were bought for processing, compared with 28,413 tons the previous season, according to government data.
