Norwegian telecommunications company Telenor ASA (TEL.OS) Wednesday said the chairman of its board of directors, Harald Norvik, will resign.

Telenor said Norvik informed the board Wednesday that he would resign after the Norwegian Minister of Trade and Industry Trond Giske--who represents the government: Telenor's majority shareholder--expressed a lack of confidence in the Telenor chairman.

Norvik, who has been chairman of Telenor since 2007, will continue to lead the board until a new chairman has been elected.

At 1309 GMT shares traded 0.2% higher at NOK105.40.
