STOCKHOLM--The Swedish telecom regulator has halted its
fifth-generation spectrum auction that was planned for Tuesday
after the Stockholm administrative court suspended parts of the
regulator's decision to ban the use of Huawei Technologies Co.
equipment.
The Swedish Post and Telecom Agency in October banned the use of
Huawei and ZTE Corp. telecom equipment in critical 5G-network
infrastructure due to security concerns.
PTS, as it is known, approved four companies to participate in
coming 5G-spectrum auctions and told them that Huawei and ZTE
products couldn't be used in new installations of central
functions, and any existing products from the two companies must be
removed.
Huawei lodged an appeal against the decision to the Stockholm
court on Friday.
"The administrative court has concluded that Huawei has the
right to appeal PTS's decision," Chief Counsel Johan Lundmark said
in a court statement.
"The conditions relating to, among other things, the use of
Huawei products until further notice, don't apply during the
administrative court's further examination of the case."
PTS said it will analyze the administrative court's decision and
review the possibility of starting the auction as soon as
possible.
