CPR to Stop Trains Across the Network in Veterans' Day Tribute
www.cpr.ca CALGARY, Nov. 10 /PRNewswire/ -- Canadian Pacific
Railway trains across the North American network will come to a
halt at 11 a.m. November 11 for two minutes of silence to pay
tribute to the thousands of North Americans who have served their
countries in war. The silence will be followed by one long whistle
blast from each train to salute the memory of fallen soldiers. All
CPR trains in Canada and the U.S., as well as locomotives in CPR
yards and terminals, will be stopped at safe locations at 11 a.m.
local time. CPR operates about 250 trains a day. This marks the
fifth year that CPR has organized this special network- wide
Veterans' Day tribute. "For two minutes tomorrow, CPR employees
will be united in quiet reflection and remembrance of those
Canadians and Americans who have fought and died for their
countries," said Rob Ritchie, CPR's President and Chief Executive
Officer. "As we face new conflicts abroad, we hope the sound of CPR
train whistles will serve as a poignant reminder of the sacrifices
our soldiers have made - and continue to make today." More than
33,000 Canadian Pacific employees served in the two World Wars
alone. More than 1,700 of those lost their lives. CPR shops were
converted to munitions factories and company ships transported
troops and supplies across the oceans. A total of 27 Canadian
Pacific ships were lost in the two World Wars. Canadian Pacific
Railway, recognized internationally for its scheduled railway
operations, is a transcontinental carrier operating in Canada and
the U.S. Its 14,000-mile rail network serves the principal centers
of Canada, from Montreal to Vancouver, and the U.S. Northeast and
Midwest regions. CPR feeds directly into America's heartland from
the East and West coasts. Alliances with other carriers extend its
market reach throughout the U.S. and into Mexico. For more
