Fortune Brands, Inc. (NYSE: FO), a leading US-based consumer brands
company, today announced that it will end the listing of its common stock on the
London Stock Exchange.

The New York Stock Exchange will remain the primary exchange for trading in
shares of Fortune Brands stock. Fortune Brands' average trading volume on the
New York Stock Exchange has increased significantly, and minimal trading volume
on the London Exchange no longer justifies maintaining the secondary listing.

This action will take effect on August 20, 2004.
