Plug Power Announces Sale of 12 GenCore(R) Fuel Cell Systems to
Florida Department of Environmental Protection First commercial
purchase from state agency represents largest single GenCore order
to date LATHAM, N.Y., June 16 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Plug Power
Inc. (NASDAQ:PLUG), a leading provider of clean, reliable on-site
energy, today announced the sale of twelve GenCore(R) backup fuel
cell systems to the Florida Department of Environmental Protection
(DEP). "This sale marks completion of the first of several pending
opportunities that we expect to close this year in accordance with
our public milestone to triple GenCore orders," said Mark Sperry,
Plug Power Chief Marketing Officer. "These systems will be deployed
in the application for which GenCore was specifically designed."
The 5kW hydrogen-fueled GenCore fuel cell systems will be
integrated with uninterruptible power supply (UPS) equipment to
provide critical backup power to DEP offices throughout the state
of Florida. Plug Power was chosen for its ability to deliver a
total fuel cell system solution that includes training, service,
hydrogen delivery, and a system durable enough to endure extreme
weather conditions. "The Florida hurricane season can create power
challenges for our critical operations," said DEP Deputy Secretary
for Regulatory Programs and Energy Allan Bedwell. "These
state-of-the-art fuel cell systems use existing, proven
technologies to deliver reliable backup power during service
interruptions while providing cost-effective environmental
benefits." As a result of this purchase, Plug Power will now be
listed as a supplier of backup power for the state of Florida,
enabling all state agencies to procure and deploy GenCore systems.
This listing complements Plug Power's recent agreements with the
U.S. General Services Administration and the N.Y. State Office of
General Services which allows federal and state agencies to
purchase GenCore backup fuel cell systems directly from federal and
state contract listings. About Florida Department of Environmental
