Corning Launches New Gorilla® Glass 3 with Native Damage Resistance(TM)
07 Gennaio 2013 - 10:30PM
Toughness has evolved in this third-generation
composition
CORNING, N.Y. -
Corning Incorporated (NYSE:GLW) today will introduce
Corning®
Gorilla® Glass 3
with Native Damage Resistance(TM) at the
International Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas this
week. This latest version of the most widely deployed
damage-resistant cover glass for consumer electronic devices is
based on a completely new glass composition, with durability
enhancements developed at the atomic structural level of the
glass.
With its new Native Damage Resistance(TM), Gorilla
Glass 3 has been developed to provide improved durability to
withstand deep scratches and cracks in the glass. As a result,
Corning Gorilla Glass 3 with Native Damage Resistance provides
enhanced scratch resistance, reduced scratch visibility, and better
retained strength once a scratch occurs.
"As a world leader in glass innovation, we are dedicated to meeting
the needs of our customers with our product innovation," said James
R. Steiner, senior vice president and general manager, Corning
Specialty Materials. "While we've optimized our glass with the most
robust chemical strengthening, we challenged our research teams to
develop a new way to make cover glass even less susceptible to
scratches and other damage."
"With Gorilla Glass 3, our scientists went to the
atomic structure of the glass to fundamentally improve the way the
glass responds to an impact or scratch. This solution significantly
improves durability, while maintaining the thinness needed for
touch-enabled consumer devices. We're excited to be able to provide
our customers with an even tougher version of Gorilla Glass that is
better-suited to meet the daily wear and tear of today's
devices."
Product qualification and design implementation for Gorilla Glass 3
with NDR are underway with Corning's global customers, who are
expected to unveil new devices featuring Gorilla Glass 3 in
mid-2013.
The attributes of Corning Gorilla Glass 3 with
Native Damage Resistance will be featured in live demonstrations in
Corning booth #14813, Central Hall, during show hours from Tuesday,
Jan. 8 through Friday, Jan. 11.
Formed through Corning's proprietary fusion draw
process, Gorilla Glass's smooth and sleek surface offers the
perfect solution for touch devices. Gorilla Glass is the cover
glass of choice for device manufacturers around the globe. Over the
last six years, it has been featured in more than 30 major brands
and 975 product models spanning more than 1 billion devices
worldwide.
