Corning Inc. (GLW) on Monday said it will retrofit a production plant in the Hefei Xinzhan Hi-Tech Industrial Development Zone in the Anhui Province, China, to serve its Automotive Glass Solutions unit.

Corning said the facility, which it expects will be fully operational in 2019, will produce Gorilla Glass for automotive interiors.

The Corning, N.Y., maker of specialty glass and ceramics didn't disclose the size of the investment in the facility. Corning said retrofitting an existing facility will help it add capacity quickly and efficiently.

Corning said the facility will be its third manufacturing site in Hefei. The company in May said it opened the world's largest LCD glass substrate facility in Hefei to serve Chinese panel maker BOE Technology Group Co. (000725.SZ).
