The science-backed Weight Loss by Hims & Hers program is
developed with the expert insight of Dr. Primack and a team of
clinical experts in obesity medicine, psychology and nutrition. The
program offers a well-rounded and more affordable approach to
reducing weight by addressing the underlying factors that affect
people’s weight – Nutrition, Behavior, Movement and Medical
Treatment.
Each individual treatment plan is personalized by licensed
healthcare providers on the Hims & Hers platform based on a
person’s body, health history and overall health and wellness
goals. The holistic approach allows providers on the platform to
combine customized medication management with ongoing clinical
support, while also providing access to innovative digital progress
trackers and educational content that is based on each person’s
behaviors and appetite profile.
“After treating thousands of patients over the years, I’ve
learned that people very commonly blame themselves for an inability
to lose weight or maintain a recent weight loss. They then become
frustrated with the restrictions and the cyclical nature of
dieting,” said Dr. Primack. “We are shifting the paradigm in weight
loss to help people curb cravings, decrease binge eating and
maintain a healthy lifestyle with a program unlike any available.
Our program uniquely uses a combination of customizable medications
and supportive content, unlocking access to weight loss treatment
for a fraction of the price – all with support from medical
providers who understand the nuance of weight gain and weight
loss.”
Obesity is one of the most common chronic health issues in the
U.S. today, and can lead to or exacerbate many other significant
physical and mental health challenges, including type 2 diabetes,
heart disease and depression. According to the Centers for Disease
Control and Prevention (CDC), 42% of American adults are considered
to have obesity with an additional 31% considered overweight. While
approximately half of Americans will try to lose weight, research
suggests that only about 20% who lose weight on their own will keep
it off long term.
Weight Loss by Hims & Hers aims to address these issues by
taking on the physical and psychological factors that contribute to
weight gain and loss. Following a consultation with a licensed
healthcare provider on the platform, if appropriate, Hims &
Hers customers will receive personalized treatment plans that
include:
- Medication Management: Access to clinically-trusted
medications that have been studied extensively and prescribed for
decades. The holistic set of medication treatment regimens at this
time can include personalized combinations of Bupropion, Metformin,
Naltrexone and Topiramate with Vitamin B12, as deemed medically
appropriate by a provider on the platform.
- Educational and Motivational Content: Available through
the Hims and Hers apps, customers will have access to a trove of
curated content, including nutrition guidance, recipes, mental
health support, movement recommendations and sleep advice – all of
which is personalized based on customers’ lifestyle and appetite
profile.
- Digital Tracking Tools: The Hims and Hers apps also will
include innovative features that help customers track their
progress, hydration, movement and sleep.
“Weight Loss by Hims & Hers is designed to uniquely fit each
customer’s biology. Our program doesn’t rely on fad diets or magic
fixes, but is built for people to get the results they want without
gambling with their health,” said Andrew Dudum, CEO and co-founder
of Hims & Hers. “True to the promise of our brand, we’re
bringing together the industry’s best clinical minds and leveraging
years of scientific evidence to create an accessible approach that
we believe will improve health outcomes, keep people engaged and
build greater trust over time.”
Weight Loss by Hims & Hers marks the second major category
expansion for the company over the past few months, following the
launch of Heart Health by Hims in August. For more information on
