Prudential PLC said Thursday that Chief Executive Mike Wells intends to retire from the role at the end of March.

The insurance-and-investment business said Mr. Wells won't stand for re-election as a director at the company's next annual general meeting.

The FTSE 100-listed company said that, given the refocused nature of the business, the board is conducting a search for a successor to be based in Asia.
