Viterra Inc. (TSX:VT) is pleased to announce that its Vancouver Cascadia
Terminal, with the full cooperation of its primary rail service provider,
Canadian Pacific ("CP"), has established a new railcar unload record for the
port of Vancouver. On Friday, October 24, 2008 staff of Cascadia unloaded 323
railcars of grain in a 24-hour period, shattering the previous port record of
304 railcars that stood for almost 15 years.

"This achievement gives credence to our belief that operating improvements will
result when the asset operators are given the ability to manage the entire
pipeline from country elevator to vessel," says Bob Miller, Senior
Vice-President Grain, North America. "It is another illustration of Viterra's
commitment to driving excellence in Canada's transportation supply chain in
cooperation with its industry partners."

Miller says maximizing the potential of Vancouver's largest and most efficient
grain terminal frees up more capacity for the system as a whole, which is
critical during the intense post harvest export period. It also reduces costs
for farmers, end users, railways and Viterra.

"CP is a proud contributor to Viterra's record unload performance at Cascadia.
Our collaborative focus on enhancing fluidity in the grain pipeline clearly
delivers results - the most efficient grain handling and transportation system,"
says Marcella Szel, Senior Vice-President Marketing & Sales for Canadian
Pacific. "Our drive to increase velocity in the pipeline has reduced overall
shipment cycle times, increased delivery consistency at destination, and
improved empty car availability for the Canadian grain industry."

Superior communication - both internally and externally - was essential in
achieving the record. The planning and execution of the loaded and empty train
movements was coordinated between Viterra's Vancouver and Regina logistics
teams, along with the Calgary and local Vancouver operations groups within CP.

The 323 cars contained over 28,800 tonnes of grains and oilseeds. The terminal
concurrently loaded out 12,800 tonnes of canola to a ship and loaded three
trucks, meaning the facility was not solely operating in pursuit of the record.

Since taking over Cascadia terminal in 2007, Viterra has embarked on a plan to
enhance its multi-commodity capability. Of the 323 cars unloaded, 122 cars were
canola, 112 were red winter wheat, 35 were red spring wheat and 54 cars were
durum, confirming the initiative is on track.

Viterra Inc. is Canada's leading agri-business, with extensive operations and
distribution capabilities across Western Canada, and with operations in the
United States, Japan and Singapore. The new Company is diversified into sales
and services of crop inputs and equipment, grain handling and marketing,
livestock feed, agri-food processing and financial products. These operations
are complemented by value-added businesses and strategic alliances, which allow
Viterra to leverage its pivotal position between Prairie farmers and destination
customers. The Company's common shares are listed on the Toronto Stock Exchange
under the symbol VT.
