French opthalmic lens maker Essilor International SA (EI.FR)
said Thursday it has received a EUR50 million fine from the German
antitrust watchdog BundesKartellAmt for allegedly creating a cartel
with optical retail store suppliers in Germany.
Essilor said it plans to lodge an appeal contesting BKA's
conclusions and the amount of the fine.
Since the beginning of BKA's probe at the end of 2008, Essilor
has set aside provisions of EUR9.2 million in its 2008 and 2009
accounts.
"Any appropriate additional provisions will be booked following
a detailed analysis of BKA's notification," Essilor said in a
statement.
Essilor shares, which have gained around 17% since the beginning
of 2010, Thursday closed EUR0.84, or 1.7%, higher at EUR49.03.
