PARIS--French ophthalmic lens maker Essilor International SA
said Tuesday it is confident it will meet its targets this year as
a lower euro and acquisitions drove first quarter revenue up over
25%.
Revenue in the first quarter rose to EUR1.66 billion from
EUR1.32 billion a year earlier.
"Business momentum should continue to accelerate throughout the
year on the back of the ramp-up in media campaigns and contract
wins for our different businesses," Chief Executive Hubert
Sagnières said in a statement. "We are confident that our full-year
2015 targets will be met."
The fall in the value of the euro--particularly against
currencies including the U.S. dollar where Essilor recorded around
47% of its revenue--accounted for almost half of the increase in
first-quarter revenue.
Revenue, which rose 13% excluding the effect of currency
fluctuations, was also boosted by a strong performance in Latin
America and a strong increase in sales of top of the range lenses
in Europe and the U.S.
