"Cook County," a powerful drama that won the Feature Film Audience
Award at the South by Southwest Film Festival, will be released to
the home video market on May 10, 2011 by Hannover House, the
entertainment division of Target Development Group, Inc.
(PINKSHEETS: TDGI). The acclaimed film from director David Pomes
played in theaters and festivals across the country last year, and
features an outstanding performance by rising star Anson Mount.
"Cook County" tells the story of an abused and alienated teenage
boy wrestling with an addiction to crystal meth while living in a
house full of crystal meth addicts. Set in the deep woods of East
Texas, Abe (Ryan Donowho) faces a bleak existence with few
opportunities. He's a high school dropout with virtually no contact
to the world outside his small town. Making things even worse is
Abe's abusive uncle, Bump (Anson Mount), who runs a mom and pop
meth lab out of the kitchen and lives life on the edge with a
meth-fueled craziness. A spark of hope emerges when Abe's father,
Sonny (Xander Berkeley), unexpectedly returns home after two-years
in prison. But the hope turns to hell as Sonny struggles to control
both the insanity at home and new pressure from federal drug
agents.
VARIETY said the film "... impresses with spot-on performances
and perfect-pitch dialogue." MOVING PICTURES said "Cook County is a
class act, representing the classless and lawless with insight and
precision that has both local and global relevance."
"It's an outstanding film," said Eric Parkinson, C.E.O. of
Hannover House and Target Development Group, Inc. "The
circumstances and themes that were hinted at in 'Winter's Bone' are
thoroughly revealed in 'Cook County' to great effect. Director
David Pomes has expertly crafted what we believe to be one of the
finest independent films in years."
Other notable festival wins for "Cook County" include the AFI
Dallas Jury Prize, the Hollywood Film Festival Best Feature, and
the Nashville Film Festival Audience Award.
In addition to his memorable role in "Cook County," Anson Mount
is also starring in a new television series for AMC, entitled "Hell
On Wheels," set in the post-Civil War west. The promotional
campaign supporting the summer launch of the new series is said to
rival the high visibility of AMC's successful "Mad Men."
"Cook County" will be available on DVD, Blu-Ray and through
Video-On-Demand sources beginning May 10, 2011. Video units of the
film will be packaged individually on DVD, on Blu-Ray and in a
combo-package containing one each of the DVD and Blu-Ray discs. Key
video accounts for Hannover House include Walmart, Best Buy,
Blockbuster, Netflix, Redbox, Target, all major on-line video
resellers and thousands of other video retail outlets
nationwide.
