Denmark's biggest union will join industrial action against Tesla in support of striking Swedish mechanics, who are hoping to force the company to sign a collective bargaining agreement.

In a statement Tuesday, the Danish 3F union said its dockworkers and truck drivers will stop offloading and transporting Tesla cars that are bound for Sweden, preventing the U.S. auto maker from circumventing a blockade at Swedish ports.

"Even if you are one of the richest in the world, you can't just make your own rules," said Jan Villadsen, chairman of 3F Transport. "We have some labor market agreements in the Nordic region, and you have to comply with them if you want to run a business here."

Mechanics at Sweden's IF Metall union have been striking since October, with several other Swedish unions joining the industrial action. Dockworkers at all Swedish ports are refusing to offload Teslas, electricians won't work on Tesla workshops or charging stations and postal workers are refusing to deliver anything to Tesla's workplaces.

3F said IF Metall had asked them for support.

On X, formerly known as Twitter, Tesla Chief Executive Elon Musk has previously called the Swedish industrial action "insane."

Norwegian union Fellesforbundet has said that if Tesla tries to deliver cars in Norway that are going to Sweden, it will consider how to respond.
