Tyler Technologies, Inc. (NYSE: TYL) today announced that Kansas has completed its statewide implementation of Tyler’s Orion appraisal solution. All 105 counties are utilizing Orion, with more than 85 percent accessing the solution via the state’s software as a service (SaaS) platform.

Kansas decided to implement Orion as a SaaS solution because hosting the software centrally enabled the state to efficiently and effectively apply successful tools and processes for every appraisal office regardless of its resources. This approach gave small, rural county offices with only a few employees the same Orion implementation and functionality as urban offices with 100 or more employees.

“Tyler’s Orion solution has proven to be a stable and scalable product, which was critical to our SaaS-based model, and Orion was also easy to deploy and administer as a SaaS solution,” said Glen Yancey, deputy director of information services for the Kansas Department of Revenue. “We worked closely with Tyler, and over time we developed a successful and repeatable deployment process which we concluded by converting 20 offices to Orion this summer. The statewide implementation of a single appraisal solution was a significant undertaking, and I could not be more proud of how the Department of Revenue staff performed.”

Built on stateless n-tier architecture, Orion is a computer-assisted mass appraisal (CAMA) solution that delivers powerful scalability, extensive availability, and flexible deployment based on the latest Internet browser technology.

“Tyler’s investment in Orion’s continuous development enables us to introduce Orion to other jurisdictions that need a solid and scalable appraisal and tax solution that is effective in both SaaS and traditional environments,” said Andrew D. Teed, president of Tyler’s Appraisal & Tax Division. “The Kansas Department of Revenue is truly a SaaS pioneer and Tyler is proud to be part of its future technology vision. We have developed a strong relationship based on our mutual commitment to success, and we value our partnership with the Kansas Department of Revenue.”
