Facts about CP in this city
- Although the area had been inhabited for many years,
Saskatoon was formally established
as a settlement in 1881, the same year the CPR was
incorporated.
- The railway first arrived in Saskatoon in 1890.
- CP opened the Saskatoon Station on June 15th, 1908 to serve as a
passenger depot, telegraph station, mail and freight depot. The
building was sold and restored and is now a restaurant.
- Today, CP employs approximately 160 people in
Saskatoon.
- Saskatoon is on what
CP's calls its "North Line". This line is an important collector of
Canadian grain and fertilizer, serving the potash mines located
east and west of Saskatoon and
many high-throughput grain elevators and processing facilities. In
addition, this line provides direct access to refining and
upgrading facilities at Lloydminster,
AB and Western Canada's
largest pipeline terminal at Hardisty,
AB.
