Burson-Marsteller, a leading strategic communications and global
public relations firm, today announced that Dan Doherty and Susan
Lagana have joined its U.S. Public Affairs & Crisis
Practice as Managing Directors.
Doherty joins Burson-Marsteller with 20 years of agency
experience. Before joining the firm, he was President of
TheWadeGroup,Inc., responsible for managing the agency's
operations, marketing and business development, in addition to
serving as client lead and senior public affairs and crisis
counselor for corporate, association and non-profit clients,
including an $8 billion consumer
packaged goods company. His corporate communications experience
includes counseling high-profile organizations on customer,
investor, community, government and labor relations, including both
union organizing and decertification campaigns. In addition,
Doherty has extensive experience in food manufacturing, including
market recalls and withdrawals in both the U.S. and Canada.
Lagana brings 20 years of experience to her new role inclusive
of political campaigns, Congressional government communications,
international and domestic regulatory policy and private sector
law. Most recently, she served as Director, Public Affairs, Office
of the Secretary for the U.S. Department of Transportation, where
she led the Department's messaging and communications strategy on
cutting-edge transportation issues and technologies, such as the
launch of the first federal policy on automated vehicles,
regulations governing aerial drone registration and operation, and
crude-by-rail safety regulations. Before that, she was the
Director of Strategic Communications, Secretary of the U.S.
Navy, Department of Defense. In this
role, she led communications efforts including initiatives to
decrease the Department's dependence on fossil fuels; strengthen
industry and international partnerships; and increase the size of
the Navy fleet. Her early career
history includes more than a decade of political campaign
communications experience and roles with Sidley Austin, LLP; United Nations Children's
Fund and CNN.

Doherty earned a B.A. in Political Science from Providence College and an MBA from the University of Maryland Smith School of Business.
