                       ANSELL ANNOUNCES WORLD FIRST 
                             IN SURGICAL GLOVES

Ansell, a division of Australia's Pacific Dunlop Limited, has released the
world's first surgical gloves made from polyurethane.

The "Elite" and "Ovation" brand polyurethane gloves, are manufactured from
Thermoplastic Polyurethane Elastomers (TPUs), and closely simulate the
performance and barrier characteristics of natural rubber latex surgical
gloves.

The Managing Director of Ansell, Mr Harry Boon, said the development and
production of the glove was a world first.

"This, new non-latex, powder-free surgical glove has been developed
especially for healthcare workers and patients with natural rubber latex
sensitivities," Mr Boon said.

"Unlike other products, however, Elite and Ovation are completely free from
vulcanising agents and accelerators, thereby reducing the risk of allergies
related to chemicals used in manufacturing latex or other synthetic gloves.

"Ansell's unique polyurethane formulation offers superior puncture resistance,
comfort, tactile sensitivity and an enhanced grip, while its patented
"Dermashield" coating allows excellent donning, even with damp hands, a
factor of critical importance to surgeons."

Mr Boon said TPUs had been used for decades in a number of industries
requiring excellent tensile strength, load-bearing capacity and resistance to
abrasion, ozone, oxygen, fuel, oil and solvents.
