LAS VEGAS, May 18 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- CA WORLD -- On
the heels of announcing a wave of new Mainframe 2.0 deliverables,
CA Technologies (Nasdaq: CA) today announced a new release of CA
Database Management Solutions for DB2 for z/OS, designed to help
customers save time and money by addressing database and
application performance issues, simplifying database administration
and improving backup and recovery efficiency.
The new release delivers the functionality, flexibility of
control, and version support needed for streamlined management of
complex DB2 systems and applications. New capabilities across
database performance management, database administration and
database backup and recovery are targeted at reducing the costs and
effort of maintaining DB2 for z/OS environments.
In addition, the new release of CA Mainframe Software Manager
(CA MSM) can be used to save time and reduce errors by simplifying
and automating the installation, deployment, and maintenance of the
new CA Database Management for DB2 for z/OS solutions.
"Our DB2 for z/OS customers have a critical need to simplify
management and improve operational efficiency," said Dayton Semerjian, corporate senior vice
president and general manager for CA Technologies' Mainframe
business unit. "With the new release of CA Database
Management we are offering ease-of-use and functionality to help
empower database managers and administrators to get more done with
less effort."
In addition to simplifying management through CA MSM support,
the three key focus areas for CA Database Management r14 for DB2
for z/OS are:
- Extended DB2 9 support, enhancing value from the latest
versions of DB2 for z/OS
- Performance and feature enhancements that can reduce the load
on IT resources associated with running and maintaining DB2 for
z/OS
- Practical innovations that provide superior degrees of control
from lights out automation to powerful user directed features that
increase operational efficiency and flexibility
"We are contractually obligated to maintain service levels with
the savings banks we support and CA Technologies' database
management tools are very important in meeting them," said
Manuel Gomez Burriel, DBA manager at
Confederacion Espanola de Cajas de Ahorros (CECA), an association
of 45 Spanish savings banks. "The additional performance
information in the new release will enhance our ability to monitor
DB2 and SQL performance with limited staff, making it easier to
manage service levels and lowering processing costs."
"CECA is currently upgrading from DB2 v8 to DB2 9 so the
enhanced DB2 9 support in the new release is also very important to
us," continued Gomez. "It will help improve our efficiency when
analyzing and planning database administration tasks, reducing
database down time and increasing application availability."
Highlights of the new features across database performance
management, administration and backup and recovery include:
