Program Trading Rose Last Week On NYSE; Volume Down

Program trading grew last week on the New York Stock Exchange,
according to the subsidiary of NYSE Euronext (NYX), although total
volume declined slightly.
The daily program-trading volume average was 635.8 million, or
28.4% of the average total of 2.24 billion shares changing hands.
Those figures were up from 623.3 million, or 27.4% of the 2.28
billion average volume posted a week earlier.
The most active NYSE member for program trading was Goldman
Sachs Group Inc. (GS). It was followed by Morgan Stanley (MS),
Deutsche Bank AG (DB, DBK.XE) and Barclays PLC (BCS, BARC.LN).
Program trading encompasses a wide range of portfolio-trading
strategies involving the purchase or sale of a basket of at least
15 stocks.
