Panasonic announced today that the KX-NT400 IP network telephone has received an International CES Innovations 2011 Design and Engineering Award in the Portable Home Appliances category. Products entered in this program are judged by a preeminent panel of independent industrial designers, engineers and journalists to honor outstanding design and engineering in consumer electronics products across 35 categories.

The heart of the NT400 is an intuitive 5.7-inch color touchscreen that provides easy navigation to multiple options, including a Camera Screen that displays live video feeds and captures images from up to 20 network cameras. This allows users to monitor remote locations or see who's at the front door and even control camera pan, tilt and zoom directly from the phone. Other features include built-in Communications Assistant software with Voice Mail Assistant for managing messages on the phone's screen, a Contacts Screen that presents contact information in a format that is easy to manipulate and a Call Log Screen with caller ID data for incoming, outgoing and missed calls.

"We are honored to receive the prestigious CES Innovations 2011 Design and Engineering Award for the KX-NT400 IP network phone," said Bill Taylor, President of Panasonic System Networks Company of America. "The NT400 provides a wealth of features that you simply don't expect from a telephone, including most notably the ability to view network-camera video feeds right on the phone's screen, making it a great choice for high-end residences. We are very proud that the innovation behind the NT400 has been recognized by this distinguished panel of experts."

Sponsored by the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA)®, producer of International CES, the world's largest consumer technology tradeshow, the Innovations Design and Engineering Awards have been recognizing achievements in product design and engineering since 1976.

The Innovations entries are judged based on the following criteria:

  • Engineering qualities, based on technical specs and materials used
  • Aesthetic and design qualities
  • The product's intended use/function and user value
  • Unique/novel features that consumers would find attractive
  • How the design and innovation of the product compares to other products in the marketplace

Panasonic's KX-NT400 IP phone will be displayed at the 2011 International CES, which runs January 6-9, 2011 in Las Vegas. It will be showcased in the Innovations Design and Engineering Showcase in the Grand Lobby of the Las Vegas Convention Center and at "CES Unveiled: The Official Press Event of the International CES" on Tuesday, January 4. The phone will also be featured on www.CESweb.org/Innovations.
