Meatly Creates the World's
First Cans of Cultivated Pet Food Through
Partnership
with Omni
Agronomics (LSE: ANIC), a leading
listed company focused on the field of cellular agriculture, is
pleased to announce that portfolio company Good Dog Food Ltd
(trading as "Meatly") has created the world's first cans of pet
food that use cultivated chicken as a protein source. The product
was created in collaboration with Meatly's first brand partner Omni
Pet Ltd ("Omni"), a fast-growing novel protein pet food company in
the UK, founded by veterinarian Dr Guy Sandelowsky.
Omni has achieved more than £2
million in sales to date selling dog food crafted from pulse, algae
and yeast protein. The use of Meatly's cruelty-free chicken
ingredient marks an important step in the mission of both companies
to offer ethical and more environmentally friendly and healthy
products for pets.
Once its product has been granted
regulatory approval, Meatly-produced pet food will be made
available in shops across the country through partnerships with
retailers and manufacturers like Omni. As an early investor in
Meatly, Pets at Home Limited plans to be the first retailer to
offer these products in its stores.
Formerly known as 'Good Dog Food',
the cultivated meat company rebranded as Meatly in November 2023
and has been working with the UK's Food Standards Agency and the
Department for Environment Food & Rural Affairs to obtain
approval for its cultivated chicken pet food to become available to
buy in the UK.
Owen Ensor, Co-founder and CEO of
Meatly, said:
"It is incredibly exciting to see the first ever cans of
cultivated pet food fly off the production line. This is a major
milestone for cultivated meat globally and shows that we are ready
to sell product."
"As demand continues to grow, with pet food already accounting
for 20% of meat produced globally, so too
does the industry's environmental impact. Cultivated meat
gives pet parents an easy choice - high-quality,
tasty, nutritious, and sustainable pet food. We're thrilled to
work with innovative companies like Omni to
make this a reality as soon as possible."
Jim Mellon, Agronomics' Executive
Chairman added:
"This partnership shows the rapid progress Meatly has made in
a very short period of time. Founded only 2 years ago, and
with minimal capital, the company has now demonstrated it is ready
to bring its product to market with key partners in the pet food
industry. While regulatory approval has taken longer than
anticipated, we are optimistic that Meatly's work with the
governing authorities will be able to accelerate the timeline and
launch its product shortly after."
