                      Category 1 Approval in South Africa                      

Hichens Harrison & Co plc is pleased to announce that on 16 October 2007 its
wholly owned subsidiary, Hichens Harrison (Africa) (Proprietary) Limited was
approved as a Category 1 (Financial Advisory and Intermediary) Financial
Services Provider by the South African Financial Services Board.

In terms of this approval, Hichens Harrison (Africa) (Proprietary) Limited is
able to provide a wide range of financial services in an advisory and
intermediary role across the South African financial markets, and cements the
foothold into Africa for Hichens Harrison & Co plc.

This Cat 1 FSP license will be followed up with an application in due course as
an Investment Management Provider in terms of Cat 2.
