Prior to joining MetLife in 2000, she served as the chief operating officer of Chicago Health Systems, with responsibilities for merging and reengineering the operations and revenue producing business for seven hospitals, including University of Chicago. Cowan earned a Bachelor of Science in business management from Northern Illinois University and a jurist doctorate from the University of Iowa.
