Steel titan ArcelorMittal (MT) Wednesday confirmed that has invited labor union representative to discuss extending the temporary idling of a part of its Florange steel plant for the second quarter due to weak steel demand.

ArcelorMittal Atlantique & Lorraine, a unit of the world's largest steelmaker, has invited members of the central works council Feb 23 to discuss "the extension of the temporary idling of a part of Florange plant, for the second quarter of 2012 as well as all measures to support a restart of activities when market situation permits it," the company said in a statement.

ArcelorMittal said full details of the project will be subject to consultation with employees representatives on the day of the meeting.
