Talisman Energy (TLM) Friday said its Norwegian oil field Yme will come online next summer and will reach its brief production peak of 41,000 barrels a day in 2011.

The field's start up, originally due this autumn, has been delayed by the construction of the production platform, as earlier communicated by the company.

Yme's platform is being produced in Abu Dhabi and will need to travel into the Suez canal past the Somali coast where pirates have seized vessels. It will arrive in Norway during the winter when the North Sea is at its most inhospitable, company spokesman Andreas Middlethon told Dow Jones Newswires.

"The Yme production peak will be [reached] very fast, and does not have a plateau lasting several years," Middlethon said. Any associated gas production will be reinjected into the field.

Yme, which Talisman is returning to operations after a brief period of abandonment due to low oil prices, is 70% owned by Talisman. Det Norske Oljeselskap (DET.NOR), Lotos Exploration and Production Norge and Wintershall Norge each own 10%. Only 15% of the field's oil resources were produced by the former operator Statoil between 1996-2001.

Talisman expects to produce around 42,000 barrels of oil equivalents a day from all its Norway assets in 2009, rising to 45,000 barrels a day in 2010 with the contribution of Yme, although that will be partially offset by declines at other fields, Middlethon said.

The company currently has stakes in six producing Norwegian fields, including Rev which started up in January 2009 and Blane.

Talisman said it hopes to raise its medium-term oil output in Norway from recent exploration successes, including at the Grevling prospect where an appraisal well will be drilled in 2010. Longer term, Talisman is targeting growth in the Barents Sea area.
