Bookham Introduces 25W Multi-Emitter Fiber Laser Pump Module

SAN JOSE, Calif., Jan. 27 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Bookham, Inc.
(NASDAQ: BKHM), a provider of optical components for industrial
applications, has launched a high power multi-emitter pump module
capable of delivering 25W out of a 105um fiber with 0.15NA. The
product meets fiber laser manufacturers' demands for increased
output power and brightness, compact pump configurations, and
reduced overall system cost. The module features the latest
generation of multimode pump laser chips from the Bookham Zurich
facility, enabling the increase in power from the 20W module
launched in September 2008. The module is hermetically sealed and
incorporates a floating anode and cathode. Its compact design
reduces the footprint of fiber laser pump stages. The module is
tailored for high volume manufacturing in the Bookham packaging and
assembly facility in Shenzhen, China. The future proof solution
allows for scaling of output power through integration of future
generation chips or increasing the number of chips used, allowing
fiber laser manufacturers to seamlessly upgrade pump stages or
reduce the number of pumps required in order to lower system costs.
The 25W pump module is on show for the first time on the Bookham
booth (#1515) at Photonics West this week. "This is a significant
evolution in the development of our portfolio of high power pump

papers at associated symposium LASE 2009: 'Improved brightness on
broad-area single emitter (BASE) modules', and 'Power scaling of
