TotalEnergies said that it has expanded its presences in the South American country of Suriname with a new offshore exploration license.

The French oil and gas major, along with partners QatarEnergy and Petronas, signed a production-sharing contract for Block 64 with the country's state-owned oil company, Staatsolie Maatschappij Suriname.

TotalEnergies will operate the block with a 40% stake with QatarEnergy and Petronas splitting the remainder equally at 30% each, TotalEnergies said Friday.

The block is situated roughly 250 kilometers from the coast and is more than 6,000 square kilometers in size, the company said.

TotalEnergies and its partners were awarded the block in the country's 2022-23 bidding round, TotalEnergie said.
