Hodder Headline plc ("Hodder Headline" or the "Company")

Hodder Headline was informed on 14th May 1998 of the following dealings by a
director of the company, Richard Stileman, and his wife, Patricia Stileman.

On 14th May 1998 Richard Stileman sold 5,387 ordinary shares in Hodder
Headline at 273p.  Of the total of 5,387 ordinary shares sold, 2,202 ordinary
shares were directly held and 3,185 shares were held in a general PEP.  In
addition, on 14th May 1998 Richard Stileman purchased 2,170 ordinary shares in
Hodder Headline at 274p each to be held in a general PEP.

On 14th May 1998 Patricia Stileman sold 5,387 ordinary shares in Hodder
Headline at 273p.  Of the total of 5,387 ordinary shares sold, 2,202 ordinary
shares were directly held and 3,185 shares were held in a general PEP.  In
addition, on 14th May 1998 Patricia Stileman purchased 2,170 ordinary shares
in Hodder Headline at 274p each to be held in a general PEP.

Following these transactions Richard Stileman is interested in a total of
28,677 ordinary shares in Hodder Headline, representing 0.08 per cent. of the
Company's issued share capital.
