Ericsson - Telecommunications main driver in energy efficiency
and sustainability
Ericsson will showcase its innovative energy efficient
solutions. Optimizing energy efficiency will not only reduce
environmental impact, it will also cut network costs and help make
communications more affordable for everyone. Mobile network
efficiency starts with good design and continues with excellent
individual core and radio site performance.
Utilizing alternative sources of energy such as solar, wind and
bio-fuels will make communication more accessible and will reduce
reliance on fossil fuels and further reduce environmental
impact.
Multimedia
At the Hall 6, Ericsson will run demos of the latest in
multimedia applications, from those oriented to the digital
natives, like the Social Media Portal, Multimedia Ringback,
presence services and the live broadcasting application Me-on-TV,
to broader concepts that will shape consumers' life in the near
future.
Connected Home
The connected home solution bridges the gap between the telecom
world and the consumer electronic world. Consumers can from a
screen of their choice access all home media anywhere they are.
This means, for example, that you can view photos or videos from
your mobile wherever you are, or access your home server where you
store your videos from your friends TV, via the IMS network.
Family Finder
The Family Finder offers parents peace of mind as they easily
can see the whereabouts of their family members. Using alarms and
predefined zones, the parents can also regularly be notified that
everything is as it should be or receive alerts if something is out
of the ordinary. This is an end-to-end solution integrated by a
network application, mobile positioning system, maps and middleware
and can be offered as a hosted concept or as a local
deployment.
Converged TV - the 3 screens
Welcome to our demonstration of a true converged TV experience
over 3 screens. Based on prototype equipment, Ericsson will show
how you can move sessions between devices and how to stop a
video-on demand session, place a bookmark and continue later on any
device. All user interfaces (IPTV Programming guide and EPG) have
the same look and feel on all types of screens.
Also, you will be able to see the demo of Rich Communications
Suite and Business Communications Suite, the foundation to the most
advanced and interoperable applications for consumer and
enterprises.
Additional topics
LTE
Ericsson shows high performance LTE with peak rates above 150
Mbps. Multiple terminal types are used: handheld, stationary Mobile
Broadband Router (MBR) and high performance test terminal. The demo
set-up runs over the air on a 2x 20 MHz carrier in the 2.6 GHz
spectrum supporting multiple active terminals. The MBR can be used
as the broadband access point in a home, replacing the traditional
ADSL connection. To the MBR, a number of devices like TVs PCs,
gaming consoles etc. can be connected either via LAN or via
wireless LAN. On top of the LTE demonstration, network nodes that
are ready for commercial LTE deployment 2009 are on display: the
RBS 6000 eNodeB family, The IP/Ethernet backhaul solutions and the
Enhanced packet core network nodes.
Ericsson will also demonstrate LTE in FDD and TDD mode on the
same base station platform.
LTE is the first technology that can use the same platform for
both paired and unpaired spectrum, thereby enabling large economies
of scale for operators.
HSPA
In the HSPA area, Ericsson will demonstrate a multitude of
devices and applications and a broad ecosystem support for built-in
mobile broadband, including Ericsson mobile broadband module
support for Windows 7; integration of Intel's Anti-theft technology
which enhances data and asset protection on mobile broadband
notebooks; Intel Atom processor based mobile internet devices for a
real Internet experience in your pocket; and Ericsson's new mobile
broadband router with an attractive, award-winning design that is
the ideal product to offer fixed wireless access on HSPA networks.
The demonstrations will be performed on the newly released next
step of HSPA networks with enhanced performance and downlink speeds
up to 42 Mbps.
Telephony evolution with IMS
Ericsson will show how the IMS-based Rich Communication Suite
(RCS) will improve and enrich mass market Voice and messaging
services and how RCS together with MMTel (3GPP/TISPAN standardized
IP Telephony) can deliver a fully unfied communications experience
between Mobile and Fixed Broadband devices. Ericsson will also
demonstrate the role of MMTel to integrate communications with Web
based services, such as e-commerce, networking and travel
information. It will also be shown how IMS can dramatically enhance
IPTV services and provide remote connectivity to our Connected Home
devices.
EDGE evolution with dual carrier
The EDGE Evolution demonstration is implemented on Ericsson's
commercial GSM and compares today's EDGE performance with the
improved performance given by Dual Carrier. Approximately 0.5Mbps
download speed is possible to show by web surfing, FTP download and
streaming video.
With EDGE Evolution, GSM operators can significantly enhance
mobile data capability in their existing network. It is possible to
quickly deploy a nationwide Mobile Broadband service by software
upgrade to the GSM/EDGE network, which is important for operators
that do not yet has 3G deployed, or as a complement to 3G where
coverage is yet to be built out.
Being one important component of EDGE Evolution, Dual Carrier
doubles the end-user bitrates from today's 296 kbps to 592
kbps.
Common mobile backhaul
Mobile Backhaul Demo station shows how the commercially
available solutions from Ericsson support backhaul of all relevant
RAN technologies in any mix (GSM/WCDMA/HSPA/LTE), and including
end-to-end IP RAN over Ethernet solutions as well as an end-to-end
network management. Overall, the demo focuses on the two main
challenges foreseen in mobile backhaul: how to address the capacity
challenge, and how to address cost efficiency.
